{"id":823,"date":"2024-04-04T13:20:12","date_gmt":"2024-04-04T16:20:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/clientesbrandbits.click\/?p=823"},"modified":"2024-04-11T10:07:54","modified_gmt":"2024-04-11T14:07:54","slug":"linda-bloodworththomason-to-recieve-wgaws-2024-laurel-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/clientesbrandbits.click\/en\/linda-bloodworththomason-to-recieve-wgaws-2024-laurel-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Linda Bloodworth Thomason to Recieve  WGAW\u2019S 2024 Laurel Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Multiple Emmy-nominated television creator-writer, director, and producer Linda Bloodworth Thomason (<em>Designing Women<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Evening Shade<\/em>) has been named the recipient of the WGAW Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award for Television Writing Achievement, presented to a Guild member who has \u201cadvanced the literature of television and made outstanding contributions to the profession of the television writer.\u201d She will be honored at the WGAW\u2019s 2024 Writers Guild Awards ceremony on Sunday, April 14.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis award is especially meaningful not only because it comes from the people in our industry who I revere the most \u2013 the writers \u2013 but also because it was previously given to my three iconic mentors, Norman Lear, Larry Gelbart and James L. Brooks,\u201d said Bloodworth Thomason. \u201cAnd no matter how patently absurd that is, I simply don\u2019t have enough character to turn it down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bloodworth Thomason launched her career with an Emmy-nominated script on\u00a0<em>M*A*S*H*<\/em>\u00a0in 1973, where she continued working while also joining the hit\u00a0<em>Mary Tyler Moore Show<\/em>\u00a0spinoff\u00a0<em>Rhoda<\/em>\u00a0before creating and producing her first series\u00a0<em>Filthy Rich<\/em>\u00a0in 1982.\u00a0<em>Filthy Rich<\/em>\u00a0would lay the groundwork for Bloodworth Thomason creating the landmark comedy series\u00a0<em>Designing Women<\/em>\u00a0by bringing her together with actresses and collaborators Delta Burke, Dixie Carter, Annie Potts, and Jean Smart \u2013 Smart will be presenting the award on April 14 at the Hollywood Palladium.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Designing Women<\/em>\u00a0would receive numerous Emmy nominations during its seven-season run including Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series for Bloodworth Thomason\u2019s writing of the 1987 episode \u201cKilling all the Right People\u201d \u2013 one of the first sitcom episodes of television to address the AIDS crisis. Bloodworth Thomason would create, write, and produce the critically acclaimed \u201890\u2019s sitcoms\u00a0<em>Hearts Afire\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Evening Shade<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 a love letter to her family\u2019s Arkansas roots.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to her work in television, Bloodworth Thomason and her husband, director Harry Thomason, served as cochairs for the 1992 Presidential Inauguration. Bloodworth Thomason would go on to write and direct multiple campaign documentaries including\u00a0<em>The Man from Hope<\/em>\u00a0and the 1996 and 2020 Democratic National Convention documentaries. In 2013, she wrote and directed her first feature-length documentary\u00a0<em>Bridegroom<\/em>, which would go on to receive the 2014 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Documentary.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2004, her first novel,\u00a0<em>Liberating Paris<\/em>, became a\u00a0<em>New York Times<\/em>\u00a0bestseller and in 2020, Bloodworth Thomason revisited the women of Sugarbaker &amp; Associates with the stage play\u00a0<em>Designing Women \u2013 2020: the Big Split<\/em>. She has received the Lucy Award from Women In Film, The Eleanor Roosevelt Freedom of Speech Award and The Silver Satellite Award (the highest honor bestowed by American Women in Radio and Television), as well as numerous awards from GLAAD, Viewers for Quality Television, and the GLSEN lifetime achievement award.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prior to entering the entertainment industry, Bloodworth Thomason was a reporter for the L.A.-based legal newspaper\u00a0<em>The Daily Journal<\/em>\u00a0before becoming an English teacher for the L.A. Unified School District at Jordan High School in Watts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Named after one of the most influential writers in entertainment history, the Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award for Television Writing Achievement is the WGAW\u2019s highest award for television writing. Past Television Laurel Award recipients include Yvette Lee Bowser, Merrill Markoe, Jenji Kohan, Diane English, Aaron Sorkin, Steven Bochco, Susan Harris, Stephen J.
