The Guild\u2019s lifetime achievement award is presented to members who have \u201cadvanced the literature of motion pictures and made outstanding contributions to the profession of the screenwriter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00abWalter Hill&#8217;s impact on our industry is undeniable,\u201d said WGAW President Meredith Stiehm. \u201cHis unique style influenced and educated generations of screenwriters who followed. He has had an enduring, renowned career, and the Guild is honored to present him with the Screen Laurel Award.\u00bb<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hill\u2019s career began in the early 1970s with screenplay credits for\u00a0<em>Hickey and Boggs<\/em>,\u00a0<em>The Getaway<\/em>,\u00a0<em>The Mackintosh Man<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>The Drowning Pool<\/em>. In 1975, he made his directorial debut with\u00a0<em>Hard Times<\/em>, a Depression-era street fighting drama. From there, Hill chose a succession of projects that found both cult and mainstream audiences.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 1979, Hill, co-wrote and directed\u00a0<em>The Warriors<\/em>, which has remained a popular cult film for over 40 years. That year, he also co-produced the science fiction blockbuster\u00a0<em>Alien<\/em>\u00a0and would go on to co-write its first two sequels,\u00a0<em>Aliens<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Alien 3,<\/em>\u00a0receiving a Saturn Award nomination for his writing on\u00a0<em>Alien 3<\/em>.\u00a0 Hill would go on to write or co-write and direct\u00a0<em>48 Hrs.<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Another 48 Hrs.<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Southern Comfort<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>Last Man Standing<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hill began his exploration of the American western in 1980, beginning with the Cannes Film Festival Golden Palm nominee,\u00a0<em>The Long Riders<\/em>. This film marked the beginning of Hill\u2019s western trilogy; it included his directing of\u00a0<em>Geronimo<\/em>, and ended in 1995 with\u00a0<em>Wild Bill<\/em>, which Hill wrote and directed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, Hill received writing credits for\u00a0<em>Streets of Fire<\/em>,\u00a0<em>The Driver<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Red Heat<\/em>, and the neo-noir thriller\u00a0<em>The Assignment<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 all of which he also directed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hill received the Cartier Glory to the Filmmaker Award at the Venice International Film Festival when his most recent film,\u00a0<em>Dead For A Dollar<\/em>, premiered in September of 2022. Hill also received the Western Heritage Award for Theatrical Motion Picture, the Western Writers of America Spur Award for Best Western Drama Script and the Will Rogers Medallion Award for Western
