Will Ford Coppola return to Cannes after 45 years?

"Megalopolis," starring Adam Driver and Forest Whitaker, is the new self-produced film/dream of renowned director Francis Ford Coppola. The film has not yet found distribution, and the few attendees who have seen it have polarized their critiques between "a work of art" and "it will be very difficult to find distribution for it."

Forty-five years ago, in 1979, Ford Coppola arrived at the Cannes Film Festival Palais with 'Apocalypse Now,' where he famously said during the press conference, 'We had access to too much money, too much equipment, and little by little we went insane... my film is not about Vietnam, it is Vietnam.' His presence there marked a sort of legend for journalists as well.

Today, nearly a month away from the Cannes Film Festival, the most prestigious in the world, the possibility arises that the filmmaker may return to the festival with 'Megalopolis,' a dystopia that transforms into utopia in the face of those who seek to rebuild New York City after a devastating disaster.

The director has invested 120 million dollars in making the film, which also features performances by Aubrey Plaza, Dustin Hoffman, Giancarlo Esposito, and Shia LaBeouf. If it does make it to the festival, it would definitely be an opportunity to seek distributors and recoup what has cost him a part of his winemaking empire.
